Serafina is a lifestyle boutique run by women for women. Female energy is abundant in our store. It’s no surprise that we take special interest in supporting other women in business. We won’t be burning our bras anytime soon (mostly because we need that support for all our beautiful garments) but we wanted to take a moment to share the wonderful women-centric community that we are incredibly fortunate and grateful to be a part of.
We asked our pool of female designers: Which women inspire you and why?
About Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato: Twin sisters Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato founded Lizzie Fortunato in 2008 with the intent of creating unique accessories that use unexpected materials and champion handicrafts from a breadth of places and cultures. Lizzie designs the line, while Kathryn, who got her start on Wall Street, oversees sales and operations. Lizzie studied Art History and English at Duke University (where Kathryn majored in Economics) and her interest in “dressing to tell a story” is reflected in the pieces she creates.
Q: Which women inspire you and why?
A: I am constantly inspired by my mom and maternal grandmother.
My mom is passionate (she works in food security), determined, incredibly hard working, intelligent and one of the classiest people I know. I think she and I were lucky enough to get our sense of style (and more!) from her mom, my maternal grandmother.
She was one of the chicest, kindest and most beautiful people I have ever met - on the inside as much as the outside. She had a love for travel, design, good style that I share today and a compassion for people and our world that was unparalleled.
The Lizzie Fortunato woman is like my mom and grandmother before her: smart, witty, adventuresome, passionate and original.
